Beyond the Commitment: Why We Gave Away More Than We Pledged
When we became a B Corp in 2023, we formally promised that at least 5% of our time each year would be spent on pro bono services. This “Designed To Give” impact business model ensures that we are using our cyber security expertise as a force for good by giving services and support for free to organizations that need protection and do not have the financial resources for it.
We didn’t stop at 5%, though. We’re proud that we ended 2024 with 10.8% of our working hours dedicated to pro bono work – double that commitment. Why did we go above and beyond? Because the B Corp classification is more than just a label to stamp on our website. It represents what RipRap Security is all about. We are devoted to being a positive change in the world, not just through the work that we do, but in addition to it. Being a B Corp gave us a framework for making a greater impact beyond cyber security.
The decision to do twice the pro bono work than we were required to do was an easy one and here are some things that helped us achieve that:
Tracking progress against our 5% goal on a monthly basis so we always knew where we stood.
Viewing our pro bono clients as no different from any other client. We are there to support them in the best way possible, which means we don’t pull back after reaching a certain amount of hours.
Focusing on the most efficient and impactful ways to help nonprofits and mission-driven organizations protect themselves so that they get the most out of their partnership with us.
Rolled out the Cyber Security For Good grant program, which awarded $25,000 worth of cyber security services to grantees so they can develop a security improvement roadmap and address gaps in their security protocols. You can learn more about CSFG here.
We are so proud of the pro bono work we did in 2024 and excited to see that we are on-track to beat our 5% goal again in 2025.
